There is nothing subtle or impartial about Surgeon’s style of Techno. A veteran of the scene, he’s been a formidable presence in Techno’s more determined sectors and has carved out a career and a sound that continues to be unique despite the genre’s popularity. As g-HA & Olanskii and Frædag continue to shine a light on the originals of the Techno genre, Surgeon joins an alumni which includes Jeff Mills, Carl Craig, Richie Hawtin and many more who represent the giants of Techno.

Surgeon has been at the forefront of UK techno since 1994. His debut EP is regarded by many as seminal, launching his career along with several early Downwards releases, causing a ripple of excitement through the techno cognoscenti of the time. Over the years Surgeon has shown his versatility as a musician with releases under his own name on FatCat, NNA Tapes and Editions Mego which break all the usual boundaries of electronic dance music.
Contemporary Surgeon sets are notable for experimentation with new DJ technologies embracing cutting edge hardware and software solutions, increasingly blurring the line between a DJ set and a live performance. Surgeon is a selector of some skill and one of the most inventive, intuitive DJs out there. Using techno as a vehicle to carry his artistic message, he also mixes up everything from contemporary bass music/dubstep to Rephlex-esque electronica to create a coherent, intense and righteously banging whole. More recently live improvisation has become a more important part of all of his performances.
Roland Lifjell is a DJ veteran in Oslo, whose DJ sets are precise, controlled expressions of the dance floor. Laying the groundwork for his sound in the booth is his love for all things synthesiser and while Techno remains the purview of his DJ sets, his 20-odd years in the booth offers a broad swathe of sound from this very dynamic genre. Always selective about the context, Lifjell prefers a reserved playing schedule, and he’s played Tresor, OHM, Dagslys and the Midnight Sun Festival in recent memory, to name but a few.
g-HA & Olanskii
Two pivotal bodies in the sphere of Norwegian electronic music, g-HA & Olanskii are an event, a club, a DJ duo, and a musical authority for Norway. Individually adept as DJ, selectors and tastemaker, Ola “Olanskii” Smith-Simonsen and Geir “g-HA” Holger’s musical voices unified for Sunkissed, an events series that has become the backbone of Oslo’s electronic music scene and beyond.
Oslo`s Øyvind Morken (pronounced Oy-vind) has a unique ability to play everything from A to Z of what genres concern. Working the dance floor in the most unexpected ways. For the last nine years he has held down a residency at Jaeger. Eight of them weekly under the Untzdag banner, a wordplay for Onsdag, Norwegian for Wednesday. It became an institution in Oslo. Drawing in a crowd of open-minded party freaks for nights of wild abandon, and where musical diversity and self-expression was encouraged.
