Every year the Friends of the Queen's Orphan Schools celebrate Fox's Feast, an annual picnic that was organised for the children at the Queen's Orphan Schools. The picnic was named after John Fox; a convict who arrived in Van Diemen's Land in 1822 at age 19.
John Fox received his conditional pardon in 1838 and died at the age of 60 in 1859. With no children of his own, John Fox left 480 pounds to the children of the Queen's Orphan Schools. To celebrate Fox's legacy the Queen's Orphan Schools organised an annual picnic which became known as Fox's Feast.
