About this Event
We are so excited for the next installment of our new Fourth Monday Poetry Reading Series! October's featured poets will be Amy Wray Irish and Kathleen Willard. The event will take place in store at 7pm.
About the Poets: Amy Wray Irish is the author of three chapbooks, including Breathing Fire, which won the 2020 Fledge award from Middle Creek Publishing. Irish grew up near Chicago and was greatly influenced by the city’s diverse poetry, music, theater and art. But after receiving her MFA from Notre Dame, she left the Midwest for the mountains and has never been happier. To read her work and learn more, go to amywrayirish.com.
This Incendiary Season documents both Kathleen Willard’s travels to India on a Fulbright-Hays fellowship and her anxiety as her mother battled cancer an ocean away during her studies in India. In the face of her mother’s terminal illness, Kathleen was going to decline the opportunity to travel and study in India, but her mother insisted, “Go, you must go.” The poems alternate between life and death, the splendor and challenges of travelling the subcontinent of India and the anticipation of the loss of her mother. This Incendiary Season is illustrated with by Santa Fe artist, Sarah Nolan using woodblocks she commissioned during her artist residency in Jaipur, India.
