DESCRIPTIONFollow in the footsteps of Philadelphia's and America's Founding Fathers and learn about the American Experiment and how the vision of William Penn, Benjamin Franklin, and other iconic names from history shaped the city and the nation. Unlike other tours that drone on and on with nothing but useless facts and jump around from century to century, our Foundations of Freedom tour will guide you through the development of Philadelphia and America through rich storytelling, all while weaving together a coherent and entertaining story of the city's birth, growth, expansion, and ultimate destination as the birthplace of freedom and the city of firsts. We will SEEK to understand the ideas that made the city and country unique, EXPLORE the most iconic locations in Colonial Philadelphia as we build a story together of the city's and nations's history, and WANDER around hidden alleys and famous landmarks as we contemplate the legacy left to us.
Put on those walking shoes, grab a bottle of water, and bring a friend or two!
BASIC INFORMATION

Distance: 4.5 Miles
Meeting Location: Indepedence Visitors Center - 599 Market Street, Philadelphia PA 19106
MEETING NOTE:
If the weather is clear we will meet oustide of the Visitor Center along Market Street. If it's raining or otherwise unbearably hot, we will gather inside of the Visitors Center by the Market Street Entrance. Either way, look for a 6^0ft tall guy with a big blue bag on his back or at his feet with a flagpole sticking out of it high into the air.
WHAT TO BRING (GEAR):
Good, solid, comfortable walking shoes that you can walk 4+ miles in on concrete pavements & sidewalks. We adivsed not to wear flip-flops or any other flimsy footwear. We also advise that you not wear anything that you would mind getty dirty, dusty, wet, etc., depending on conditions.
A bottle or two of water
A bag or other means of carrying personal items
Cameras & cellphones (for pictures) welcome! Make sure they're fully charged!
Snacks as needed (something portable like trail mix, candy bars, fruit, etc.)
Appropriate clothing based on the forecasted weather conditions - temperature, precipitation, etc. for the duration of the tour/event. Please reach out to [email protected] with any questions or concerns about clothing or other gear to bring before any tour/event.
BREAK/BATHROOMS
There will be two short 10 minute bathroom break on our tour.
Bathrooms are available at the start/end point at the Independence Visitors Center.
Other bathrooms needs/stops will be up to participants to find, use, and then rejoin the group
