Find out what being a full- time Foster Carer or part- time Support foster carer involves, meet Break's fostering team & ask questions.
About this Event

Join our friendly team at our Norwich office as they share with you everything you need to know about becoming a Foster carer.

We are recruiting Foster families(full-time) and Support foster carers (part-time) across Norfolk, with competitive salaries that reflect this vital role.

WHO CAN FOSTER?

You can be a couple, single, homeowner, renter, gay, straight, disabled, have children or not. What really matters is that you have the ability to give a child the time, energy, love and stability they need long-term.

WHAT IS A SUPPORT FOSTER CARER?

Whilst Foster carers have a full-time role, support foster carers play a key part in Break’s fostering family too. They are matched with a foster family to provide short breaks for the child in their care. This might mean for example that for one weekend a month, the young person will come and stay with you and your family.

WHAT WILL THE SESSION INVOLVE?

On arrival, you will be greeted and offered a drink. During the group session you will hear what both roles involve, find out about Break's unique approach to supporting foster carers and children, how to transfer to Break from another agency. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and book a future 1:1 chat.

It's is important to us that everyone can access the sessions equally. If you need extra support or have accessibility needs to attend the session please email [email protected] to discuss this.

We also have online sessions bi-monthly that you can register for via our website www.break-charity.org

We are a small team with a family feel. We work hard to create a therapeutic, supportive community around our foster carers. When you foster with Break, whether that's as a full-time or Support foster carer, you can expect:

- Our small team means you'll get to know all our social workers and other foster families easily so you'll always feel you have someone to turn to for advice.

- A support group alongside fellow foster carers at Break and activity days for all.

- One-to-one support and regular supervisions.

- A ‘buddy’ system for new foster carers to help you settle into the team

- Access to our therapeutic parenting practitioner to help you create a safe environment where the child can allow themselves to trust again and thrive.

- Where required, to be matched with a fostering support carer ,to allow you and the child in your care short breaks, where the child still cared for in a loving, supportive environment.

- Involvement in the Service Development Group sitting alongside Break’s senior leadership, and Break fostering staff

- Access to a therapist

- Ongoing training including access to the National Association of Therapeutic Parenting website.

- If you have birth children, they can access a support group lead by our team

W e look forward to meeting you.
