About this Event
California is still the state to watch as a leader in online safety policy. From the first state to pass the Age Appropriate Design Code (AADC) and the privacy-preserving Delete Act, to the introduction of a bill to address chronological versus algorithmic feeds for minors, California continues to pave the way in regulating online safety and privacy.
In September 2022, California became the first state to pass an Age Appropriate Design Code. It was modeled after the UK’s version of the code passed in 2020. The law received both praise and critique from leaders in the tech industry and with rising attention to kids' online safety, this law has been named as a potential path forward. However, with criticism from some tech policy advocates and lawsuits from trade associations, the law faces an uphill battle towards implementation. All of this and more will be discussed at FOSI Briefs the States: A Golden Opportunity for Online Safety.
Speakers include a keynote address from the lead sponsor of the Age Appropriate Design Code, California Assemblymember Buffy Wicks and a panel discussion featuring Jess Miers (Chamber of Progress), Nichole Rocha (Tech Policy Consultant), and Marissa Edmund (FOSI). Additional speakers to be announced soon!
Join us on May 8, 2024 at 1:30pm as we dive into the most pressing issues facing online safety in California. The panel discussion will be immediately followed by a networking reception - we hope to see you there!
