The Kurdish-led Rojava Revolution: feminist, Kurdish-led, multi-ethnic is now facing a deadly assault by vicious Syrian government forces.
From 2012, Rojava was a beacon for multi-ethnic, feminist, workers co-operative and ecological future. An enclave liberated from the former Assad dictatorship survived years of attacks from ISIS, Turkish, Syrian jihadist militias.
On March 10, 2025, the Syrian Democratic Forces of Rojava signed an agreement to build a united Syria on the basis of equal treatment and local autonomy for the Kurds and all other minorities in the country.
However, early in January 2026, the post-Assad Syrian Transitional Government (headed by former Al Qaeda commander Ahmed al-Sharaa) and allied Islamic fundamentalist militias and Turkish-backed mercenaries began a military assault against Kurdish-held cities.
The US, European Union and Israel gave this genocidal war the go-ahead.
Now Rojava, and the 2.5 million Kurds people living there are in a fight for their very existence.
