'Forty' by Anne Kelly: A New Textile Art Exhibition

The Batsford Gallery welcomes a brand-new textile art exhibition from 1–8 October!


Forty years ago a young Fine Art graduate arrived at Gatwick Airport with minimal baggage on a travel bursary from her home country of Canada. Anne Kelly continued her studies at Goldsmiths College in London and has been actively involved in textile art ever since.


This exhibition celebrates forty years of stories about travel memory and family. It also commemorates the launch of her fifth book for Batsford Textile Portraits.


This stunning exhibition will be running in early October at Batsford’s gallery space on Hackney Road.

Textile Portraits: draws upon Kelly’s vast experience to offer insight into the world of textile portraiture. Her approach covers a broad range of techniques including hand and machine embroidery quilting and appliqué. It also covers topics such as cultural representation abstraction and self-portraiture. The text is illustrated with both her own gorgeous textile work and that of other textile artists from around the world.

Anne Kelly is an award-winning artist living in Kent. Her work is centred around the creation of wall hangings and objects using a mixture of techniques such as mixed media collage and hand and machine embroidery. She has exhibited internationally in solo and group exhibitions with work in private collections both in the UK and abroad. She works as a textile artist and tutor teaching and speaking to groups and guilds. Her previous Batsford titles including Textile NatureTextile Folk Art Textile Travels and the co-author with Cas Holmes of Connected Cloth.
