Forró is a genre of Brazilian music that originated in North-eastern Brazil. It encompasses various dance styles and a number of different music beats.
There are three rhythms of forró: xote (a slower-paced rhythm), baião (the original forró) and arrasta-pé (the fastest of the three). Forró is danced in pairs, usually very close together.
The musical style, which is at the origin of, and from which have grown out most musical styles today denoted as Forró, is the Forró of Luiz Gonzaga. This musical style, commonly called also Forró Pé-de-Serra, is played by a trio combination of an accordion, a triangle and a and a zabumba (bass drum).
Live music at The Caledonia are always free to attend. No reservation needed.
This show starts at 9pm, there will be two sets with an interval.
Food is served until 9pm, bar is open until 12.
