James Comey comes to Brighton this July to discuss the U.S presidential election and his new crime thriller Westport.
‘No matter where people are in the political spectrum, if they take the time to think about what it would mean if Donald Trump were president again, about how he could do more to accomplish his retributive goals. I think it's really important that he not be president of the United States again.’ – James Comey, former FBI Director
James Comey has never shied away from confronting the powerful. In 2016, during the presidential campaign, he released a statement saying that the FBI would continue the previously closed investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails from her time as Secretary of State. In 2017 he oversaw an investigation into then President Trump and his allies over possible collusion with Russia. That led to Trump firing him as FBI Director.
On July 23 Comey comes to the Intelligence Squared stage for our first ever event in Brighton, where will discuss the prospects of Trump being convicted of crimes, and what's at stake for America and the world in the 2024 presidential election. He will also discuss his latest crime novel Westport, which draws on his own experience as a prosecutor to tell a thrilling story of a lawyer investigating the mafia – who subsequently ends up on trial herself.
