About this Event
Join us at 5pm for a hot or cold drink - we'll set off for the walk at 5.15pm
Jas, founder of Forij, invites you on a walk along Edgbaston Reservoir to learn about the properties, uses and histories of the plants we see everyday. The edible greens we gather will become toppings for wild pizzas, which we’ll make and eat together. This fun and friendly class aims to show how foraging can help us re-find a balanced and reciprocal relationship with the rest of nature, as well as giving us the confidence to forage in our own neighbourhoods. Whether you’ve foraged before or are completely new to the idea, everyone is welcome.
What's The Exchange?
Neighbourhood Trade School is based on the principle that everyone has something to share and everyone has something to learn. We invite each class host to choose items that they would find useful and delightful to receive in return for their time and experience in sharing a skill, so we invite you to explore which of our host's barter items you would like to bring along with you, if you are able to do so.
Jas's Barter List:
- Childcare
- Knowledge of childcare/ childminding options available locally
- Empty notebooks
- Scrap wool
- Scrap fabric
- Scrap metal
- Binoculars
About Your Host
This class will be hosted by Jas who is the founder of Forij. Growing up in Birmingham, Jas did not have much access to nature on a day to day basis, but having children of her own, she wanted them to have a more connected experience with nature. Her initial knowledge came from the Forest School that her children attended, alongside learning by being present in nature. Jas and her children often ride their bikes through nature which only increased their curiosity to learn more about the plants they saw everyday.
She now hosts foraging events in and with the local neighbourhood to encourage local ecology based literacy as well as holding stalls in local markets where she sells nature inspired goods.
About Neighbourhood Trade School
Neighbourhood Trade School is based on the principle that everyone has something to share and everyone has something to learn.
What if we could activate the potential in our homes, streets, libraries, playgrounds, schools and more as places to exchange learning together in a kind, joyful, noble and intergenerational way that is available to all of us?
We invite you to explore how exchanging skills and knowledge of many forms can make our neighbourhoods resilient to the challenges and opportunities we will face together, now and in the future. Discover what you’d love to share or learn more about, as we shape Neighbourhood Trade School together.
