About this Event
Spend a weekend learning how to heat treat carbon steel so it can be made into useful tools. We’ll show you how to forge a hammer, a chisel and a punch. Develop an understanding of basic metallurgy as it applies to the heat treating processes of normalizing, annealing, hardening and tempering. We’ll show you how to dress the working edges and faces of your tools in addition to punching, slitting and drifting the material.
Prerequisite:
This course is designed for individuals who have some previous but not extensive forging experience, or who have taken our “Introduction to Contemporary Blacksmithing” course.
Class runs from 9am-5pm Saturday and Sunday with a 1h lunch. All materials, safety equipment, coffee and tea will be provided. Lunch is available in town / an indoor lunch area with a microwave and fridge is provided on site if you bring your own food. Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
