Meet Steel City's new brewer, Dave Mitchell, and try a few of our new brews!
Dave brings to us his love of history, family, and great beer. Like the coffee house, Dave has his own roots in Phoenixville, his family has been centered here for generations. In fact, you'll see his grandfather painted on the mural outside of our building. His appreciation of tradition and local ingredients is what fuels Dave’s passion for craft beer. In addition to brewing for Steel City, he also works at Deer Creek, a local malthouse in Glenn Mills and Artisan Homebrew located in Downingtown.
Forever Changes is a pop-up boutique carrying new and vintage vinyl records and creations by local artisans Rich’s Really Cool Notebooks, and Livnsol by Brian Hearns. One Saturday per month, owner/operator Shawn Cephas will be set up at Steel City Coffeehouse.
Who is Shawn Cephas, you ask? Why a pop-up style record shop and gifterie?
Well, a little history…
Shawn was literally born above a record store. His parents owned King James Records – one of the first black-owned records stores in Philadelphia, where Shawn worked until its closing in 1997. Shawn’s journey eventually led him to Steel City’s open mic, and he has lived in Phoenixville since 2008. He has woven himself into the fabric of the local music community, where he met his wife, Anna, and is excited to share his love of records and all things music!
Shawn chose Forever Changes as the name because for one, it’s the title of one of his favorite albums – by the 60s psychedelic band Love led by an African-American; but also, to Shawn it evokes to endless change and the continuum that has brought him back to the family business after so many years.
Shawn’s unique take on the vinyl record store trend is this: Forever Changes is not just a place for the vinyl record fan. It’s a place for their friends, family, and lovers. Where they can buy art and gifts and books…for the music fan. That’s why the words “record store” are left out of the shop’s name. It’s more than records.
