About this Event

Join WSU Extension at the 78th St. Heritage Farm for an advanced shiitake workshop covering seasonal bolt management in the laying yard through post-harvest of shiitake mushrooms produced on logs. The workshop is open to anyone who has already attended a introductory shiitake workshop or webinar that covered the timber acquisition through inoculation portions of shiitake production. The workshop will be interactive and feature a tour of different examples of shiitake production around the Heritage Farm serving as points of discussion.

PROGRAM FEATURES:

  • Laying yard site dynamics, setup, ergonomics
  • Seasonal shiitake bolt management in the laying yard
  • Shiitake forced fruiting and harvest
  • Shiitake post-harvest storage and refrigeration considerations
  • The basics of shiitake drying and DIY dryer fabrication

Registration fees admit up to 3 members of the same farm.

All registration fees directly support WSU's Extension's forest-cultivated mushroom production systems research and education program.

NOTE: The workshop will commence rain-or-shine. Be sure to be prepared and dressed appropriately for the weather and walking through fields and forest.

WSU Extension programs and employment are available to all without discrimination. Evidence of non-compliance may be reported through your local WSU Extension office.
