Join professionals across the health fields as we learn about caring for patients affected by violence and trauma exposure. You’ll network, learn, empower, and heal yourself.

Join Forensic Health Training & Resources this April for a training opportunity open to all nurses, support staff, advocates, SART team members, and all healthcare providers and staff in Janesville, Wisconsin at Mercy Medical and Trauma Center. Conference Room 1128 A/B

Day 1 focuses on cultural sensitivity and care provided to the victimized Indigenous and rural patient population, ending the day with a panel discussion. Conference members have the opportunity to ask questions directly to the panelists. Presenters represent university leaders and researchers, traditional healers, and nationally recognized Indigenous health representatives with experience in working with individuals across the lifespan whose health is impacted by interpersonal violence, sexual assault, and intergenerational trauma.

Day 2 addresses mental health challenges and healing for patient and the healthcare provider. A Captain within the US Air Force will be presenting on her journey from patient to provider and her military based victimization to help us understand key takeaways. Clinical psychologists with experience in adolescence and college based communities will present on how to connect and converse within these patient populations. A trauma mitigator will discuss stress management for emergency departments and health care professionals, diving into the importance and tools for communication, helping us understand our exposures, caring for self, and reducing secondary stress and vicarious trauma. Lastly, we will end the conference with a presentation and Soundbath, learning about alternative therapies for healthcare providers when working with patients affected by trauma. Utilizing holistic approaches, we’ll understand how sound therapies can assist as a non-invasive approach to mental health and self care.

There are 13.5 contact hours available for nursing staff, Indigenous Artists will be selling their items, and an free evening networking event for all conference participants. Discounts given to groups of 4 or more who register from the same organization/site. I hope you’ll join us in Wisconsin!
