FOREIGN FILM

From life-long members of the heart of the fertile Sacramento underground music scene arrives FOREIGN FILM, formed by members of legendary metallic hardcore outfit Will Haven.

The vision of Will Haven guitarist/primary songwriter Jeff Irwin, with several of his bandmates bringing it to fruition, FOREIGN FILM is a project created to explore a different set of soundscapes than Will Haven. Established in 2023, the band takes its name from Will Haven’s “Foreign Film,” found on their heralded 1997 debut LP El Diablo. Irwin was curious to explore new boundaries beyond the walls of their primary project, infusing influences such as Pink Floyd, Mew, Hum, and The Cure to create the lush, filmic sound of FOREIGN FILM. After a year of writing demos, Irwin recruited fellow Will Haven musicians Mitch Wheeler (drums), Sean Bivins (guitar), and Adrien Contreras (bass), into the fold.

Shortly thereafter, the members took residence at J Rigged Studios in Sacramento, enlisting Weston Ray and Robert Kerr to handle producing and engineering duties and began recording their first record. Throughout those sessions, the band brought in fellow musicians Robin Florkin (piano/keyboards), Ryan Kerr (guitar), and Tami Taracena (backing vocals), expanding the lineup and aptly realizing their sound. FOREIGN FILM finds themselves exploring cinematic soundscapes and textures with emotion and authenticity, and while still completing their debut album, is already envisioning and creating new music, with an enthusiastic stride to follow wherever this new path leads.

GHOST MARROW

[ listen ] [ instagram ]

Aurielle Zeitler's patient command of atmospheric, shifting synthesizer tones and her intimately presented voice are the cornerstones of her work. At the intersection of these two elements is a sort of magic. Zeitler's 'Earth + Death' album, the third under her Ghost Marrow moniker and her first for The Garrote, is patiently breathtaking. This is, perhaps, over and against years of experience playing music in much more rehearsed settings as Chelsea Wolfe's touring lead guitarist during the Abyss album cycle or singing on tracks for Emma Ruth Rundle and Suzanne Ciani.

ART SHOW NOCHE OSCURA: DISSOLUTION, ALCHEMY, EMERGENCE

'Noche Oscura del Alma'otherwise known as 'Dark Night of the Soul'is the title of a poem by 16th century mystic and Catholic poet St. John of the Cross. Once a metaphor for spiritual crisis, the term 'Dark Night of the Soul' is more contemporarily used in philosophy to describe a phase in one's life of profound existential struggle when the self is drastically re-shaped. A time of spiritual awakening, disillusionment, ego death, exploration of the unknown, and rebirth. It starts with a shedding of old identities and attachmentsa period of inner turmoil. This is the dark night. In this chrysalis of transformation, the cells re-orchestrate and a new self is born. A self that is beaming with authenticity, love, and newfound purpose.

'Noche Oscura' will exhibit themes of metamorphosis, dissolution of the self, inner alchemy, and ultimate emergence. Please feel empowered to interpret this theme in your own words. Every Dark Night is unique to those who wander through it.
