Fordingbridge History Society's next meeting will be at 7:30 pm on 14th April - at Avonway Community Centre. It is entitled "A Victorian photographer in Hampshire". Our speaker, the well-known author Gerald Ponting will be telling us about James Coventry, who was a "gentleman photographer" in the 1890s. His photographs of the New Forest scenes display his artistic and technical skill when photography involved cumbersome wooden cameras and glass plate negatives. He will talk about this enthusiastic Victorian amateur photographer and share his wonderful black and white photography, now converted to the digital format. He will delve into his family history and reveal why his family were proud of his youthful recruitment as a "Pontifical Zouave".
Refreshments available after the talk.
Admission is free for member; visitors are welcome but requested to contribute £5.
