Be a FORCE! Foundations of Respect, Confidence, and Empowerment
We are pleased to offer the SETpoint FORCE curriculum, a 3-part workshop in Empowerment Self Defense. Our coaches will take students through in-depth learning, discussion, and practice focusing on Situational Awareness and Intuition; Boundary Setting and De-Escalation Skills; Physical Resistance Skills; Power Dynamics and Healthy / Unhealthy Relationships; Active Bystander Intervention; and Survivor Advocacy and Self Care. Participants will receive learning aids and practice materials at each session, and will be asked to complete short activities between each session including journaling activities that reflect on skills practice, observation, and reflection on reading and/or short video materials.
Lead coaches for the series will be Lisa Nakamura and Michele Montag, who founded SETpoint five years ago and have taught empowerment self defense to thousands of people across Western Pennsylvania and beyond in that time. Our coaching strives to be inclusive, survivor centered, and trauma informed.
This 3-session series takes place on August 3, 10, and 17 from 6:00 - 8:15pm at Steve DeMasco's Shaolin Studios in Regent Square. It is open to the public for anyone age 13 and up. Space is limited. The cost is $125 per person and can be paid the day of the event, or it can be billed to your regular tuition for SDSS students and families. Financial assistance is available.
