The October 7 massacre and the ongoing war has raised deeper disagreements than ever before throughout the Jewish community. In particular, many families and organizations are confronting deep and painful divides between the older and younger generations, risking rifts that will harm their relationship to each other and to Jewish life more generally.Representatives of "For the Sake of Argument"—an educational initiative that believes that healthy arguments can make us smarter and bring us closer—will be in Palo Alto for one day to lead an incredibly special workshop that addresses this topic.
This opportunity is available to a small group of participants. It will teach skills of healthy argument and give participants a chance to talk about some of the more difficult topics relating to Israel in this moment.
We would like to bring together different generations for this event. We are looking for half of the participants to be ages 14–30 and the other half to be over 45. If you're 35 and really want to join, please reach out to us directly and we'll figure something out.
"For the Sake of Argument" founders Robbie Gringras and Abi Dauber Sterne, both visiting from Israel, will run the session. Their work, which has focused on talking about Israel, is intended to train educators in a pedagogy of healthy argument, enabling them to engage with contentious topics in their classrooms, camps, board rooms and more.
Lunch will be provided at the end of the workshop.
The program is being offered at no cost thanks to a generous grant from the Natan Fund.
