A Date with History: Join us for "For the Love of the Mansion"As Valentine’s Day approaches, love is in the air, and it is also in our archives! We invite you to a very special edition of our Free First Sunday on February 1st, titled "For the Love of the Mansion."
This is the perfect opportunity to slow down and enjoy a day of culture, music, and movement, completely free of charge. Whether you are planning a romantic afternoon, looking for a unique family activity, or simply want to experience the Mansion in a new light, we have something special for you.
RARE ARCHIVES DISPLAY (12-4 PM): Step behind the scenes as we unveil specially selected photographs and personal effects belonging to Louisiana’s First Ladies and the men they loved. These items are not part of our permanent display, offering a rare glimpse into the private lives of our state's history.
DANCE IN THE EAST ROOM (12:30-2 PM): Have you ever wanted to dance in a grand ballroom? Now is your chance. Walker Fleming, a seasoned instructor with over 12 years of experience and current head of the LSU Ballroom Dance Club, will teach a free ballroom class. It is casual, fun, and absolutely no experience is required.
Music at the Mansion (2:30 PM): End your afternoon with a breathtaking cello recital by Selin Demirel. An award-winning musician born in Istanbul and trained in Berlin and Switzerland, Selin will fill the Mansion with a beautiful performance of Bach's Cello Suite No. 5 and more!
