Dr. James Turk
Director of the Centre for Free Expression at Toronto Metropolitan University, Dr. James Turk is an expert on issues of freedom of expression, academic and intellectual freedom, and civil liberties. He has written and spoken extensively on these topics, advocating for the right to access information free from censorship. With a distinguished academic background from Harvard, Berkeley, and the University of Toronto, Dr. Turk will explore how libraries uphold the core tenets of intellectual freedom and foster environments where ideas and opinions can flourish.
Lesra Martin
Lesra Martin's remarkable story, famously portrayed in the Hollywood film The Hurricane, is one of courage, hope, and determination. Once an inner-city youth dismissed by society, Lesra went on to change not only his life but also the lives of many others. Now a Canadian lawyer and motivational speaker, he inspires audiences worldwide with his message that each of us holds the power to make a difference. His personal journey from a Brooklyn teen to a respected prosecutor with multiple university degrees is a testament to the transformative power of education and perseverance.
