New Stages is delighted to share a workshop presentation of FOOTNOTE TO FREEDOM, a vital new Canadian musical by Beau Dixon and Lance Dixon. Suitable for ages 10+.The musical is about their grandfather, Private George Dixon, a cornet player in the No. 2 Battalion in the first World War. The No. 2 was the first and only Black Battalion in Canadian military history, but its existence was ignored and forgotten for decades.
With original songs and dramatic personal stories about the impact of the No. 2 Battalion on their family – on their grandfather George, their father Blair, and on themselves – FOOTNOTE TO FREEDOM is an exciting new musical that the Dixons hope to share across the country.
Beau and Lance will perform in a special staged concert/reading of FOOTNOTE TO FREEDOM at Market Hall Performing Arts Centre in Peterborough on Nov 9, 2025 at 7pm. The Brand New Stages performance will be followed by a Q&A about the musical and the No. 2 Battalion. The Dixons want to know what YOU think, before they take it on the road.
