Learn how the Takoma Park Silver Spring Community Kitchen is helping local small-scale food entrepreneurs overcome barriers and build successful businesses. Speakers will include the Community Kitchen Program Manager, Ivie Baker IV, as well as a TPSS Community Kitchen user, Miriam Perlacio.
Ivie Baker IV is the Program Manager for Crossroads Community Food Network’s Community Kitchen. Ivie brings a wealth of entrepreneurship experience to his role at Crossroads, which he gained by establishing a food startup while pursuing his MBA at Howard University. Having worn multiple hats in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors since then, Ivie’s focus now is to share business insights and creative problem-solving skills with Crossroads’ food entrepreneurs. He has a passion for seeing growth from all angles and utilizing technology and intellectual property to scale up. Away from the kitchen, you may find Ivie planting in his garden or practicing handstands to find the perfect balance.
Miriam Perlacio is an extraordinary baker and pastry chef from Lima, Peru. Miriam moved to the United States in 2003 and ventured into the hospitality industry, eager to learn and grow in a new environment. While studying business administration and hospitality management in 2016, Miriam started Little Bites Catering in Washington, DC. Her business operates out of the Crossroads Community Kitchen and has been growing step by step. In addition to her catering business, Miriam works with a nonprofit organization that helps cooperatives develop their business model. In her free time, Miriam loves being with her family and two children, enjoying good food, and trying new things. She also enjoys learning more about business and personal development.
