The Chefs from the North Vancouver Island Culinary Association (NVICA) are at it again! The Chefs will be back for another edition of FoodFest- Back to Basics Saturday March 1, 2025.As part of its commitment to promote, support and educate about local agriculture, Comox Valley Farmers’ Market (CVFM) & NVICA are hosting an information session at the market this Saturday at the Native Sons Hall. Rather than just cooking & serving CVFM vendor's products as we have in the past, we want to share the wealth of knowledge that our Valley chefs have for menu planning, cost-cutting, in-season buying & making the best use of our local producers. While we will be focusing on all these subjects, we will also be sharing basic recipes. The shift in focus has been brought forward in response to the rising costs of food and the inability of some of our most vulnerable households to access nutrient dense foods.
This session the Chefs will be sharing basic recipes with the loose theme of the sugar shack. One of the recipes includes Pouding chômeur à lérable (Québécois Maple Pudding).
They will of course continue to share the wealth of knowledge that our valley chefs have for menu planning, cost-cutting, in season buying and making the best use of our local products.
Demonstrations (including samples) will take place from 9:30-11:30 (Note that the Market is open from 9-1). Will we also have recipes available too so that you can make your favorite dishes at home.
This event is free for everyone to attend.
Come for the freshness and stay for the fun!
