About this Event

For the second year, Oyster are collaborating with the talented David Armstrong, for an informative training session on Food Regulation & Enforcement.

Date: Thursday 16th May 2024 | 9am - 4pm
Location: Shoreham Centre - 2 Pond Rd, Shoreham-by-Sea BN43 5WU
Speaker: David Armstrong, Barrister and Trainer
David will be bringing his considerable experience as a Barrister and trainer, to provide expert guidance to Environmental Health professionals working in local government.

The training will be covering the following:

  • The legal implications of dealing with corporate entities, including identification of the true Food Business Operator, implications of the doctrine of identification and how this may impact upon responsibilities for decision making. Corporate conflicts of interest and how the concept of “another person” is applied will also be discussed.
  • Investigation on site, including methods of recording evidence whilst on premises, dealing with language issues and handling evidence from witnesses who may become unreliable or unreachable.
  • Broader case investigation, the application of PACE and the particular exemptions from PACE that will apply in most food related investigations. This will also deal with the distinction between offence and due diligence investigations. As officers may need to be able to probe into processes applied in the business, tips will be given on effective practical interview technique.
  • The use and application of sentencing guidelines and the approach to be taken to post conviction orders.

Lunch will be provided on the day.
