About this Event
You are invited to the Food for Thought project celebration, followed by a conversation about where we might go next with local food producers, young people and tackling food insecurity in the northern Devon area.
Devon Community Foundation was awarded just under £100,000 in 2023 (funded by UKRI’s Community Knowledge Fund, and managed by the Young Foundation), for a year-long project called Food for Thought. The focus of the project has been exploring ways of generating and sharing knowledge and insight at a community level #CommunityKnowledge
There will be opportunities to learn about the Food for Thought project, meet the project partners, hear from young people, see the project film, have lunch and to network, as well as have a facilitated conversation about local food systems.
The conversations that happen through Food for Thought are enabling new voices to be heard on the subject of food and food insecurity, and the challenges of accessing healthy local food. These conversations also generate fresh insights into possible ways to develop improved relationships between young people, their families, local producers and project partners. There is a strong strand aimed at developing the research skills of young people involved in the project through:
· developing community research skills with the young people so they can grow in confidence, expand their knowledge of food systems, build social skills, and contribute to knowledge generation and analysis
· giving voice to the young people: for example, through regular group discussions about food, through interviewing opportunities with partners, through leading the research process and by presenting their project insights to various audiences
· strengthening young people’s media skills by working closely with a professional film-maker to plan, record, edit and create
After lunch delegates will be invited to take part in the Food Conversation, the UK’s biggest ever conversation about food. This is part of a national discussion about food, supported by The Food, Farming & Countryside Commission. #TheFoodConversation
