During this 8-hour session, participants will gain an understanding of how to develop a food defense plan by conducting vulnerability assessments under the Mitigation Strategies to Protect Food Against Intentional Adulteration (IA) regulation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Your Instructor 
Dr. Derrick Payne is a Food Safety and Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) Lead Instructor, with over 25 years of experience in the development, implementation, and management of regulatory and GFSI compliant global food safety, food defense and quality systems at companies like Coca-Cola, Tate & Lyle and Ralston Foods. Among his numerous academic credential, Dr. Payne also holds a Masters of Science in Food Safety from Michigan State University and a doctorate in Public Health (Epidemiology) from Walden University with a specialization in foodborne illnesses.

Course Description:
The Intentional Adulteration Conducting Vulnerability Assessments Qualified Individuals (IAVA-QI) Participant Course will provide participants with the knowledge to implement the requirements of conducting a vulnerability assessment under the Mitigation Strategies to Protect Food Against Intentional Adulteration (IA) regulation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
 Developed by the FSPCA, this course is the "standardized curriculum" recognized by FDA. Successful completion of this course is one way to meet the requirements for a "food defense qualified individual" responsible for conducting a vulnerability assessment or reviewing food defense plans.
Course Focus

Focuses primarily on intentional adulteration issues and encompasses the entire food system
Provides information on creating and analyzing your food defense plans
Evaluates processes, vulnerabilities, actionable process steps, based on the three elements

Potential Public Health Impact
Degree of Physical Access
Ability of an attacker to successfully contaminate the product

Who should take this course?
The IA Rule applies to both domestic and foreign companies that are required to register with the FDA as food facilities under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. You should take this course if

You are planning conduct food defense vulnerability assessments using the three elements
You are planning to lead a food defense team to conduct vulnerability assessments using the three elements
You are an auditor (internal or external) who evaluates food defense plans.
Your are planning to conduct food defense vulnerability assessments via a hybrid approach that uses the key activity types and the three elements. 
Your company produces food or food ingredients to be imported into the United States 
Your company is subjected to inspections by the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration (FDA)
You are preparing or auditing food defense plans for companies who import foods into the United States

This oral instruction, manuals, and works aids for this course will be in English.  Course participants must be able to read and speak English.
While not required, it is recommended that you that you complete two free online courses
