About Hercules & Love Affair
Founded by Andy Butler , Hercules & Love Affair exploded onto the scene with Blind , a track that bridged classic disco and modern house. The song was remixed by Frankie Knuckles , a full-circle moment for Butler, who grew up inspired by the pioneers of house music.
The name Hercules & Love Affair is rooted in queer mythology, inspired by the tale of Hercules and his lover Hylas . In the legend, Hylas is taken by water nymphs, and Hercules searches endlessly for him. It is a poetic reflection of longing, devotion, and love’s enduring pull. Butler channeled this myth into music that feels both deeply personal and universally liberating.
Beyond the dancefloor, his music has soundtracked runway shows for Chanel, Dior, and Versace , and played in art institutions like MoMA and the Art Gallery of Ontario . With an NTS radio residency and a catalog spanning five albums, remixes, and collaborations, Butler’s influence runs deep.
