Playing trad & original material with a low-tech inspired approach, Follywren make space for flurry’s of drums and driving bass to meld with the golden uplifting warmth of a hypnotising melody. Always relishing in the feeling of the tune sounding so tantalisingly sweet you just have to play it over and over.
Although the band is fresh, the lineup is a cross section of Bristol's finest from the folk and trad jazz music scene. All have been gigging relentlessly and touring the world for 10+ years.
After transitioning from guitar to banjo Kai is taking the lead on this project and applying the technical skills learnt from other touring bands to deliver a unique and accomplished performance. After learning banjo, Kai was looking to combine the playing technique of banjo with the drive and tone of electric guitar so had a one of a kind electric banjo made specially for this band.
We have Bill Frampton on electric bass, a multi-talented player from Around About Dusk. Mikey Ponsford is on Tenor Guitar from the infamous Flats and Sharps and on drums, Paul Archibauld from the renowned Rob Heron and the Teapad Orchestra.
With our first album just recorded and released we already have had 40+ gigs booked in our first year including Fannys Meadow, Doca Street Festival and Kelburn Garden Party.
