About this Event
Carve a personalized wood shortbow with artist Dan Buhler.
Dan Buhler is a Brigham City-based artisan and engineer who blends technical precision with a passion for pre-17th-century skills and culture. His craftsmanship—utilizing hand-selected and harvested staves—is renowned for its durability and beauty, earning him an international reputation among traditional archers and collectors.
Craft your own 3-foot shortbow! In this hands-on workshop, you will explore the traditional bow-making process through expert demonstrations and step-by-step examples. Working with a premade, untillered bow blank, participants will focus on the critical “tillering” phase, the meticulous process of shaping and balancing the wood to ensure a smooth, powerful performance. Using a provided Shinto rasp and pre-made string, Dan will guide you in refining, testing, and finishing your own functional, personalized bow.
Registration includes your own Shinto rasp tool to use during the workshop and keep for your future projects!
Note: This workshop is recommended for ages 14+ (adult supervision is required for younger participants) and requires a safety waiver for use of tools that will be sent after registration.
