MÍO has earned a reputation as one of the underground's most exceptional and captivating live experiences. With a lead vocalist who grabs hold of the listener and refuses to let go - delivering raw vocal power and an immense stage presence, supported by a tight, playful, and energetic band - the result is an unforgettable musical force.
The band has created a unique take on folk rock - which they themselves like to call "Folk 'n' Roll". MÍO draws rich inspiration from Norwegian rock, punk, and folk music featuring hardanger fiddle with fuzz and a vast arsenal of folk instruments from around the world. The music is hard-hitting without losing balance with its more dynamic sides. MÍO explores Norwegian folk music in many innovative ways - through tonality and lyrical pictures. Melodies shine through with a strong folk identity, using teqniques such as vocal- and fiddle trills. The lyrics draw inspiration from timeless images in folk tales, mixed with the sharp-edge and frankness from punk and rock - addressing current themes that navigate between society, politics and human emotions. MÍO brings something new to the folk universe with their unique genre fusion. The joyful sounds of ska, rock steady and early reggae are the message Donna and The Dynamiters are spreading to set dancing shoes on fire with a set that comprises of classics of these genres and their own tunes. The most essential thing is captured already in the title of their debut twelve inch album released by Stupido Records: Rocket to Rocksteady Heaven. Now is the time to dance, sing along and kiss the nearest girl or boy or the pint of beer. � Jamaican rhythm music is the combining factor that gave birth to The Dynamiters: bands like The Skatalites, The Wailers, The Maytals, everything that Studio One, Treasure Island, Blue Beat, Trojan Records released. After breaking up his former ska band Union Street, the bass player Pete Repo decided to form a new, bigger orchestra with players from Finland’s second city, Tampere’s punk rock and big band scene. With an energetic live show inspired by Romani and Balkan folk music, Alum Alu have already made a name for themselves in their home of Latvia over the past five years. Performing Latvian-language renditions of traditional songs alongside original compositions, they create a border-defying gypsy-folk-rock experience that leaves audiences grinning from ear to ear, crafting a dynamic blend of high-energy rock’n’roll and a deep respect for the traditional nature of their songs.
Alum Alu's debut album dropped in May 2023, with the single “Ļeņingradas Pagrabā” debuting at #2 on Radio Naba’s “alternative music” chart before climbing to #1, where it stayed for six weeks. The band have enjoyed a quieter year in 2025 in order to work on new material for a second album, and warmly invites fans to come and be among the first to hear the new material live.
