This workshop is primarily aimed at practising graduated Zenthai Therapists and also open to practising therapists of other manual therapies, to finesse bodywork for the neck.
What we will do :
- mobilise and strengthen the neck and associated body parts in our own bodies.
- self neck massage (shared with clients this can be a great adjunct to your bodywork session)
- check in : where are you at with neck work? what are you experiencing with clients? what neck issues are people presenting with? what issues are people presenting with that can be alleviated by relevant neck work?
- get clear with neck anatomy, and where the meridians and fascial lines are in the neck
- discussion : why and when do we work directly or indirectly with the neck?
- explore which gestures we use indirectly (distally and globally), along with directly (locally), that can relate to a session addressing neck issues
- explore more subtle 'non-doing' practices
- demos of techniques/gestures
- review gestures already learnt and explore new ones, flows, getting
clear
- look at how we prepare for specific neck work
- discuss and explore some common conditions that may present
with your clients, eg whiplash, vertebral fusion, protruding disc,
scoliosis
- play labs : time for exploration and practise without overdoing.
- sharing circle : discoveries and feedback
You will receive:
- a handout of gestures covered
- greater understanding around the why, when and how to approach neck work
- clarity around the gestures
- an opportunity to both give and receive bodywork relating to the neck
- a supportive space to (re)connect with other committed bodyworkers
- a useful resource to share with clients
There are so many Zenthai gestures that support freedom and health in the neck. How do you choose which ones are the most appropriate with this person, in this moment?
We have 3 days to explore and finesse what is already in your tool kit and perhaps add in some new ones. Get clear on why, when.and how.
What is the inter-relationship of the neck with other parts of the body?
How does releasing the neck impact on our ability to engage in life more fully?
Free and full range of movement in the neck allows us to engage more fully socially, to have clarity of thought and a more optimistic outlook, to breathe naturally using the diaphragm, to have uncompromised movement of the shoulders, arms and fingers.
Freedom in the neck ensures smooth flow of blood in and out of the head and optimal innervation to all parts of the body which in turn affects organ function and, sympathetic/parasympathetic and hormonal responses.
Freedom in the neck, particularly where it meets the occiput, also reflects freedom in the sacrum and pelvis.
Freedom and strength in the neck affects our posture and all that is impacted by it’s alignment or misalignment.
Workshops such as this offer spaciousness for focused attention on one subject. Specific and attentive neck work has ramifications for the whole body, as mentioned above.
The neck, (and face), is often the last part of the body contacted and can support the surrender into a deep state of relaxation. Here, the body can integrate the whole treatment and access it's inherent healing abilities.
Workshops such as this offer an opportunity for practising therapists to both receive from and give to other therapists. In this way we are reminded of the value of our work.
Practise, discussion and honest feedback allows us to assess and reassess the effectiveness of what we are doing. This supports the refining of our practise.
And so we grow.
Our practise deepens and we come together in support.
This is training to finesse work with the neck. We will explore the neck in various positions: supine, side, prone and seated positions.
Motivation for my work comes from my deepening understanding that freedom of movement and strength in our body profoundly impacts us on all levels - physically psycho-emotionally and spiritually. Blood and qi moves freely, our posture is more aligned, our organs can function more optimally, we feel more grounded and we interact more gracefully with the ebbs and flows of life.
We live in a body that is designed to move. Our bodies (and our minds) thrive when we move and extend and reach and pull and push and twist and turn, when we exert, and when we rest and feel and listen. When we do this with our bodies, our minds also become freer; expansive and exploratory.
