Dianne Longley Analogue to digital, combinations and permutations: a brief history of the working processes and aesthetic decisions that have inspired the production of Dianne Longley’s artists books, 1978-2025Dianne works across a range of media including printmaking; encaustic; pokerwork on wooden panels; artist books; small-scale bronze casting and miniature painting on vellum. Her artist books and prints have featured in solo and group exhibitions in Australia, South Korea, Japan, India, Sweden, Spain, Hungary, Mexico, the UK and the USA and are in numerous public collections. Dianne went to art school as soon as she finished high school. The heady days of Whitlam’s social and cultural legacy in the late seventies gave her access to a free education for which she is very grateful. Art school was heaven; classes in techniques and processes, morning coffee discussions about art, politics and literature, and weekend parties with Patti Smith and Leonard Cohen on the turntable. In her presentation Dianne will discuss a selection of her artist books, contextualising how her concepts for creating an artist book were informed by her personal art historical and cultural influences. Her work in artist books has chronicled the shift in print and book technologies, from analogue to digital and combinations thereof. Related works in other media will also be discussed in her presentation.
