Join us for our Monthly Poetry series, an afternoon of poetic readings. Featured poets will each read for 20 minutes, followed by a short break to sign books, then an open mic. Please sign up by 2:30 pm, and limit your reading to one poem, one page. Hope to see you there!
Maura High's poems are located, for the most part, in North Carolina, where she now lives, and in her native Wales. Her first full-length book, Field as Auditorium (Redhawk, 2025), is a compilation of poems inspired by local landscapes and histories, many of them centering on the field of the title, near her home in Orange County. Maura has won the William Matthews Poetry Prize, the Terrain Annual Poetry Prize, awards from the NC Poetry Society, and "Best of Web" and Pushcart nominations. The Garden of Persuasions was awarded the Jacar Press Chapbook Contest Prize. Other chapbooks include the The Field Index (an edition illustrated by printmaker Jean LeCluyse of the poem that won the Terrain Prize), and Stone, Water, Time, with illustrations by the fabric artist Lyric Kinard. Her poems have appeared in numerous print and online magazines. For more information about her work as editor and translator, her Welsh background, awards, and interests, see maurahigh.com.
Cheryl Wilder is the author of Anything That Happens (Press 53, 2021) and its companion Singing Riptide (Press 53, 2025), which was supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and Durham Arts Council. Cheryl is a North Carolina Poetry Society board member-at-large, a community guide in the For Alamance Initiative, past president of the Burlington Writers Club and co-chair of their Student Writing Contest. She is also the author of the chapbook What Binds Us (Finishing Line Press, 2017), has published in numerous journals and anthologies, and holds a BFA from UNCW and MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts. The owner of BornWilder LLC, Cheryl is a coach who helps clients tap into their strengths, nurture awareness and accountability, and develop connection and belonging in their lives.
