Join us in a Flow State for an evening of celebrating art & expression at Narrative’s September Open Mic: All Mediums Welcome. We can't wait to flow with you!
$5 credit for an in-store purchase is included with the ticket: must be redeemed during the event and within 1 purchase. 1 redemption per purchase. Sliding scale tickets available for accessiblilty. -Door/Sign-ups @ 7PM, Mic Starts 7:30PM
-Sign-ups to perform are 1st/come 1st serve at the event. Performer must be present in-person to sign-up.
-Spoken word performances- 3 min time slot
-Music/other performances- 5 min time slots
-BYO equipment. Space is limited- please plan performance accordingly, minimal equipment only.
-Performing is not required to attend- come join & cheer on your community!
-BYO bites & bevs.
-Respect + kindness always required @ Narrative- please be mindful of this for all work shared in this space.
Featuring Aparna Paul (she/her)
Aparna is a writer, chemical engineer, banana bread enthusiast, & amateur crossword constructor based in Cambridge, MA. Her poetry & prose has been recognized by Reckoning, DMQ Review, & Gaining Ground, among others. She edited the anthology Reflections of The Land (Literary Cleveland, 2022) and is a co-editor of GOOD SOUP, now on hiatus (@goodsoup.mag on insta!). You can find her at the Boston Poetry Slam at the Cantab Lounge every Wednesday or hosting the Flow State: Open Mic every third Thursday at Narrative.
We are thrilled and honored to feature Narrative's very own Open Mic Host this month in celebration of the publication week of her first full-length book of poetry, HOME FREE (Game Over Books).
HOME FREE is a work of weaving. Weaving personal anecdote, family lore, collective history, fast food drive-thru & heritage home cooking, the dinner table & the house party, this language’s capacity to harm & heal, snakes & more snakes, this collection refuses to hold one truth at a time. These poems and their speaker don’t belong exactly anywhere; rather, they seek home in new ways: in people, in memory, in an open invitation to find yourself everywhere.
