Ready to meet your newest furry friend? Join the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on January 9, January 23, and January 30 at the Florence Wild Horse and Burro Training and Off-Range Corral to give a good home to your very own wild horse or burro.
Most animals available at these events are untrained. Untrained animals are $125 on a first come, first served basis.
On January 23, there will be trained animals available. The training demonstration will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by an auction. Trained burros start at $500, and trained horses start at $1,000. After the auction, any trained animals will be available on a first come, first served basis.
Visitors to the event must adhere to the visitors policy for the Florence Prison.
All animals available have been examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, de-wormed, and have a current negative Coggins test.
The BLM offers wild horses and burros gathered from public lands in the west to qualified individuals who must demonstrate humane care for the animal. Wild horses and burros are known for their sure-footedness, strength, intelligence, and endurance. With kindness and patience, these animals can be trained for many uses.
Those who are interested in bringing home a wild horse or burro are encouraged to apply online prior to the event through the BLM’s Online Corral. On-site applications will also be available and can be approved during the event. To qualify to adopt/purchase, you must be 18 years of age, have approved facilities to keep the animal(s), and proper transportation home for the animal(s) from the event site. BLM staff will load each animal into a BLM-approved trailer provided by the adopter. For more information and adoption/purchase qualifications, call the BLM at 1-866-4MUSTANGS (1-866-468-7826) or visit the Florence Off-Range Facility webpage.
Visit these events at 17989 E. Butte Avenue in Florence, Arizona, across from the prison complex about a mile from the intersection of Butte Avenue and Arizona Route 79 (Pinal Parkway) in Florence. All visitors must follow Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry rules while at the facility. The BLM, in cooperation with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Re-entry, offers wild horse and burro adoptions and sales from the Florence Wild Horse and Burro Training and Off-Range Corral.
