FLORA HIGGINS & EVELYN HAMPTON + OPEN MIC!
Flora Higgins, poet, teacher, librarian, works as a research librarian, teaches Classic Literature, and produces poetry programs. She was project manager, compiler, and editor of the award-winning Remembering The Twentieth Century: An Oral History of Monmouth County, New Jersey.
Flora’s poetry appears in The Newark Review, Philadelphia Poets, The Lyric, Paterson Literary Review, Still Crazy, Spouts, The Asbury Park Press and Unbridled, the anthology published by The Cowboy Press. She conducted poetry workshops at the Monmouth County Youth Detention Center, producing two booklets, My Life Is Hard To Do, and I'm Trying To See Free. Her literary criticism has been published in The Gissing Journal. The New Times has published several of her letters. Flora has produced many poetry readings and workshops with fellow Jersey Shore Poet, Evelyn Hampton.
Evelyn Hampton has resided in Wanamassa, NJ, for the past 46 years. She grew up on a farm and in rural Tinton Falls, where she acquired a great appreciation and reverence for the peaceful beauty of nature and the comfort of small-town living in an era of bygone simplicity. She strives to express through her poetry the restorative powers of humor, the natural world and human connections.
Evelyn has been a member of the Jersey Shore Poets since 2017. Her poems and essays have been published in The Asbury Park Press, Monmouth Review, Stories of Music Volume I, The Lyric, Lucky Jefferson, The Poetry Box, Beyond Words, Wingless Dreamer, American Graveyard Vol. I, Rhyme and PUNishment and others. She has co-presented several readings and poetry workshops for the Monmouth County Library system with fellow JSP poet Flora Higgins.
