Gothic Funk Press will publish FLOOD 2025, a print anthology, on August 16, 2025. Writers featured in FLOOD 2025 include writers from both Greater Flint and around the world, including: Miriam Åkervall, Scott M. Bade, Afriasia Bermúdez-Crespín, Nic Custer, Elizabeth Decker-Benjamin, Laura West Hall, Alaina Hammond, Colleen S. Harris, Skip Keith, Monica Raymond, and Ann Wuehler.A launch party will be celebrated at Queens' Provisions at 7 pm, August 16, 421 Garland St., in Flint's beautiful Carriage Town Neighborhood. Wine, charcuterie, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase, and the event is free and open to the public. A $10 donation is requested to help defray the cost of publication. A limited number of copies of FLOOD 2025 will be available for guests for free.
The event, which continues Gothic Funk Press' tradition of themed art parties, is titled "Gothic Funk Party #29: Smack to the Styx," and will include readings by contributing writers, a propitiation of water spirits, and a fundraising drive (with prizes!) to support the work of Gothic Funk Press in the years to come.
FLOOD 2025 was conceived as a literary sprint. Participating writers had just one week to respond to a demanding set of writing constraints: every piece of writing shares several features including an interview with another person, an altered state of mind, and writerly experimentation. These prompts were devised by writer and Gothic Funk alum Elisabeth Blair, celebrated for many works of art and writing including the award-winning poetry collection because God loves the Wasp.
The Gothic Funk Press is a Flint, Michigan-based independent publisher with an emphasis upon "Gothic Funk" art: experimental work aswim in romanticism, darkness, dapth, and swagger. The Press has published works of Gothic Funk fiction and poetry and anthologies in support of Flint and Genesee County writers. The Press offers a popular salon series, publishes the international Paramanu Pentaquark arts journal, and has coordinated community engagement events such as the Flint Order of Orpheus and the Flint Area Scavenger Hunt.
Queens’ Provisions, operating out of the historic Berridge Hotel in Carriage Town, Flint, is not just a place but also a deliberately joyful vibe that celebrates getting together to share good conversation, a quick (or not so quick) bite to eat, weekend brunch, and/or a glass of wine or beer.
