The NSWC is offering a session of our free Flip The Script Sexual Assault Prevention workshop from August 28-29, 10:00am-5:00pm. This is an evidence-based curriculum for university-aged women and gender-diverse folks (15-19) developed over a decade of research at the Sexual Assault Resistance Education Centre (SARE) at the University of Windsor. Register for this session to learn about healthy boundaries and sex. If you want to:
- Learn to trust your instincts
- Explore your values on relationships & sex
- Practice defending yourself
- Know how to help a friend
Come to the session!
The curriculum is also known as EAAA, which stands for enhanced Assess (the risk cues for sexual violence in situations and behaviour), Acknowledge (personal obstacles to prioritizing your own sexual rights in acquaintance situations) and Act (with effective strategies to defend your body and boundaries). As several peer-reviewed follow-up studies have shown, for every 13 women enrolled in the EAAA program, 1 attempted or completed rape is prevented in the next 12 months. Within the next 24 months, participants have as high as a 55.8% to 71.8% reduced risk of assault.
This curriculum aims to empower women and gender-diverse individuals with the information on likely perpetrators of sexual violence (for instance, dispelling the myth that rape and sexual assault happens only with strangers, and drawing attention to the high rates of violence from perpetrators known to the victim/survivor), risk factors and coercion techniques, self-defence strategies, and a clear understanding of their own personal boundaries and relationship with their sexuality.
High-school age participants may be eligible to claim their attendance for 12 volunteer hours with a letter from the NSWC. Contact us for more info!
