What is SMART Recovery?
SMART Recovery is a science-based, behavioral substance-use disorder recovery program that empowers individuals to control their impulses, build resiliency, and lead a balanced life.
How Does It Help?
The program focuses on four main principles:
Building and maintaining motivation
Coping with urges
Managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
Leading a balanced life
Through techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), participants gain tools to handle cravings, avoid relapse, and maintain sobriety.
Why SMART Recovery?
Similar methods to AA, with a scientific approach.
Tools to regulate impulses, avoid false promises, and embrace self-reliance.
Meetings provide open discussions, peer support, and educational opportunities.
Supports medication management for those with genetic predispositions to substance-use disorder.
