About this Event
Join us on Saturday, January 18th, from 8:00 am - 11:00 am for a discovery flight! We invite you to bring your family and friends out for a great day where you will be able to take a discovery flight in a Cessna 172 Aircraft or Piper Archer and get a bird's eye view of the area. Co-Pilot & Passenger seats are available. Museum admission is included with ticket purchases. Date and times are subject to change pending weather, aircraft maintenance, and minimum seat requirements to economically operate the aircraft. If you purchase tickets and cannot attend, your tickets are transferable to individuals of your choosing for the same event date, but there are no refunds. PLEASE READ ALL FAQs.
*Weight and age limits apply.
FAQ:
*How old do I have to be? Co- Pilots must be at least 8 years old. Passengers must be at least 6 years old.
*Is there a weight limit? Note: The maximum weight limit of any single passenger is 250 lbs. The maximum group weight limit is 495 lbs. Please call or email if you have a question specific to your case before purchasing. Customers who cannot fit in one seat are required to book a second.
How long is the experience? 20-25 minutes
Am I guaranteed to fly with the persons I bought tickets for or with? There are no guarantees due to the weight and balance of the aircraft. We will try our absolute best to ensure you are paired up with the persons you bought tickets with. Please call or email with questions.
What are the minimum seat requirements to operate a flight? The minimum number of seats to economically operate the aircraft are (2) including at least 1 co-pilot for a given flight. If they are not sold, we cannot operate the flight. First, we’ll try to move you to another flight, but that may not always be possible. We ask for your consideration if this occurs. We’re a non-profit organization and rely on sales and donations to operate each flight.
What is a discovery flight? Discovery Flights are short introductory flights for people interested in learning about flying or taking the first step toward earning their pilot's license. Every flight is assigned to a certified pilot instructor who walks you through the step-by-step procedure of how to safely fly an aircraft.
What is included? The flight experience, museum admission, and professional digital photo
How does weather affect my flight? Strong winds and rain can cause the event to be re-scheduled. Your ticket will automatically be valid or transferable for the rescheduled date. You will be notified of a cancellation at least 12 hours before the event start time.
Who is the pilot-in-command? A Certified Flight Instructor from Red Arrow Flight Academy.
How much does it cost? $70.00 Co-Pilot Seat with hands on experience, $40.00 Passenger Seat
How many people fit in the airplane? 1 Co Pilot and 2 Passenger seats in a single flight maximum. Fewer people will be allowed if they exceed the weight limitations.
What is the importance of Weight and Balance in aviation?
Proper distribution of weight plays a large and important role in an aircraft's overall performance. Load your airplane improperly, and it will affect its fuel consumption, speed, rate of climb, controllability, ceiling, and even structural integrity.
Weight and balance have a direct effect on the stability and performance of the aircraft. If a plane is too heavy, it may never get off the ground. If it's out of balance, it may not be as controllable when it does take flight.
What time do I arrive? You will receive a text message, phone call, or email the day before to confirm your time slot. It is always best to arrive early.
Can I request a specific time slot? You may request a specific time and we will attempt to honor it, but there is no guarantee. We do not recommend attending this event if you are on a time constraint.
Can I visit the museum before or after? YES! We have a 65,000 sq ft. hangar with over 40 historic aircraft and 50 automobiles. Come early or stay after your flight to experience the museum.
Can I fly while pregnant? In general, flight in small aircraft is as safe for pregnant women as it is for any other passenger (although maybe not as comfortable). We discourage someone from taking flight if they are visibly pregnant. We recommend that you talk with your doctor before taking flight especially if it is a back passenger seat. It requires climbing into a tight space. Research shows most suggest to not fly between 24-36 weeks depending on their size and type of aircraft. Safety will be the first priority for all parties involved. The flight operators reserve the right to make the final decision.
Can my family and friends come watch me if they aren't flying? Yes, but they must pay regular museum admission to enter the museum. They may step outside to watch you takeoff, but must stay behind the flight line within the designated safe area.
What if I'm an out of town visitor and my flight got rescheduled? There are no refunds, but your ticket(s) are transferable to other individuals of your choosing for the same date.
