"Eat Like a Local Tourist in My Own City by Jodie Gould" 5 out of 5 stars. There are many tours to choose from when you visit New York City, but when you combine a native New Yorker's favorite activities, eating and walking, with a smorgasbord of history, you've got Like A Local Tours, a new and welcome way to admire what our city has to offer.
"A fantastic, fun adventure in the heart of NY!!" 5 out of 5 stars. We had such a good time with Robert, our guide, in the Flatiron District. The area we covered was very reasonable (not too much walking, just enough). We learned amazing history about the Gilded Age, the toy district, architecture, Madison Square Park and the first two Madison Square Gardens, etc. The food we sampled was delicious; we even went back to a couple of the places for more, after the tour. And then bought several babka's from Breads to take back to the West Coast. Robert is knowledgeable and very personable. This was a real treat! We'll try one of their other tours on our next visit to NY.
"Flatiron Food Tour" 5 out of 5 stars. We visited the Flatiron district for a food tour led by our tour guide, Ben. Before doing the tour, we had no idea what fabulous and diverse food establishments exist in the Flatiron district. We sampled expresso, pizza, burrata, burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches and chocolate babka as part of the tour. It was particularly interesting to visit Beechers where cheese is made in downtown Manhattan. Ben also gave us some history of the area, including the Flatiron building, took fun photos of our group, and pointed out some great shops in the area. I have acquired some gorgeous ceramic pieces from Fishs Eddy after visiting on Ben's recommendation.
"Rocking the Flatiron with Food & Wondrous Factoids" 5 out of 5 stars. I thought this was going to be a food tour but it was so much more -- our tour guide, Robert Stout, is a wealth of information and constantly dazzled us with things that we who live in NYC didn't know, including the fact that green street signs mean one thing, the brown and black signs something entirely different (historical). Want to know where "23 Skidoo" comes from? Why there are slate roofs on apartment buildings? And did you know there's a working cheese factory in midtown?Besides eating the best that this district has to offer (excellent burgers, gourmet cheeses, thin-crust pizza, and chocolate cheese cake (AND we toured the bakery to see it being made) -- it is SO worth doing a Like A Local Tours (@LikeALocalTours). We plan to do more with his company.
