Telling tiny tales. Battling big climate change issues through story.
About this Event

"Science fiction is any idea that occurs in the head and doesn't exist yet, but soon will, and will change everything for everybody, and nothing will ever be the same again."

~ Ray Bradbury

One fundamental way to enter the world of fiction is through the question: ”What if?” But with climate change, the question has become, “When?” And that’s terrifying. So terrifying, it can be hard to process let alone look for solutions.

Unfortunately, the implications and scale of climate change can lead to climate immobility for many people. Stories can help. In this workshop you’ll be sparked to write your own flash fiction story based on realistic future climate scenarios. Returning to the “What if?” we can engage with climate change through curiosity and narrative. This will allow us to process the realities of the world today, deal with the emotional intensity of what we fear, and start thinking expansively about the future.

No writing experience necessary - just a willingness to be open to the "What if?"

This workshop will be facilitated by the Brooklyn Speculative Fiction Writers

Who are the Brooklyn Speculative Fiction Writers: We are a supportive community of fiction writers with the creative goal of telling great stories in any speculative fiction genre. We ask ourselves difficult creative questions, imagine fictional worlds, and help each other tell better stories.

What is Speculative Fiction? Fiction that explores imaginative and fantastical scenarios. It often features supernatural, futuristic, or other invented elements.

What does Flash Fiction mean?

Flash Fiction is defined as a complete, stand-alone story told in 500 to 1000 words.
