(VOLUNTEERS NEEDED)
American Legion, Sons of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars are once again inviting our grateful and patriotic citizens to assist with the flagging of Veteran graves as we conduct “Flags In - South Hadley”. The event will take place this Saturday, May 18, 2024 as we “Flag” over 2500 veteran graves at both Notre Dame and Mater Dolorosa cemeteries. This is a time honored tradition dating back to the Civil War of “decorating” the graves of the fallen that became the annual solumn holiday of Memorial Day. The event will start with a brief opening ceremony at 9:45am at the flagpole on the Notre Dame side of the cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, followed by the instructions and the distribution of flags to all who can help us. It’s a big job, as well as very rewarding and heartfelt tribute to our Nation’s veterans. Any amount of time one could give is appreciated. This is also a kid friendly event and all who participate can take pride in knowing they were a part of not only our communities efforts, but indeed the entire country’s efforts to honor our Nations fallen heroes in advance of Memoral Day. Please wear comfortable shoes, comfortable clothing and bring water. It is expected to be a very warm day. The event is rain or shine. Hope to see you there.
Thank you,
Brian Willette, Commander
