You’re a PHOTOGRAPHER inspired by the beauty of horses and have a deep desire to improve your images. On a lovely ranch in northeast Paso Robles, CA Saturday October 19th, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. + Sunday October 20th, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a photography retreat, as compared to a workshop. There will be NO teaching. This is a walking retreat on a 60 acre ranch with free roaming horses.
In keeping with the core values and vision of Flag Ranch's founder Kimberly Carlisle, we are creating an experience in partnership with the horses at this unique Horse + Human Collaboratory. Our intention with this retreat is to carry a camera, walk the property, and when sensing or hearing the horses nearby, we find a spot to sit and wait. As in wildlife photography, the intention is to capture the natural behavior of the horses. We will not force any movement or go in with any expectations.
To be on this land, walking the creek-bed and meadows, and strolling under the oaks, it's peaceful and calming. This retreat is a great time to practice observing the beauty of nature and capturing a few quality images when the impulse strikes. And it's totally okay to bring any type of camera or even no camera at all, and just take it all in with your full senses.
You must be able to walk up and down hills, wear sturdy boots, and bring and carry your own food, water, and camera. At times you may need to duck under a fence or a tree branch, so being able-bodied is required.
$900 per person
Group Size Limited to 9 participants
As an equine photographer, I am inspired by horses, and truly love capturing their beauty and energy in images. I’ve learned that patience and careful observation in the present moment are the key to creating stunning images.
“The object isn't to make art, it's to be in that wonderful state that makes art inevitable” – Robert Henroy
Join me at a Photography Retreat where we’ll break down this process by slowing down and spending time with each aspect of “seeing” horses.
This is not a technical photography workshop. This is about learning to slow down and understand how horses move and behave so that you understand what makes a compelling image.
We’ll walk the oak covered hills and the dry creek bed ninja style, find a beautiful spot, and sit and observe.
Many photography workshops help you create hundreds if not thousands of images (I host these types of workshops also), but this offering challenges you to take only a few images; to wait for the moment that takes your breath away.
We begin with the understanding that we are entering a mysterious realm; the realm of Equus. We connect with our longing to transcend “what anyone can see” and notice things our eyes don’t see; things beyond our mental comprehension. When we can create an image that allows others a portal into the unseen, we have truly created a work of art.
Explore the unseen with me at my next retreat!
