About this Event
For this concert, the Fitzwilliam Quartet begin in America with Amy Beach’s Quartet in One Movement, composed in 1929 and built upon soulful Alaskan Inuit melodies. From there, they move to the cryptic and intensely personal world of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Ninth Quartet. This continuous five-movement work is introspective and universally resonant. The concert culminates with the sublime majesty of Beethoven’s late masterpiece, the String Quartet in E-flat major, Opus 127.
