About this Event
This is an advanced class. Participants should be able to follow a pattern to completion.
This class will explore the partnership between paper pattern shape and fit on the body.
We will start with a commercial pattern of your choice, take careful measurements, make preliminary adjustments, build a test garment, evaluate fit, and then adjust the paper pattern. A second test garment is often required, depending on the complexity of the garment.
Building on the knowledge of shape and fit, we will then move into more artistic decisions. Want a different sleeve? Great! Prefer more flare in the skirt? No problem, we can do that now.
Expect to do some work sewing up test garments in between classes. Participants will be prepared to take more abstract pattern drafting classes after this session.
Bring to first class:
- Paper pattern - simpler is better for a first time. Blouses, skirts, dresses are ok; jackets are not recommended. Trousers are a "maybe" - consult instructor ahead of time if unsure
- Tape measure
- Wearer of garment, if possible. If not, contact instructor ahead of time for key measurements to take before class
- Fabric for test garment
- Shears, pins, etc for cutting
Instructor email is [email protected]
Class meets four times, Thursday afternoons.
