About this Event
Let's get moving! Driving long hours to make ends meet, fitness is often one of the last priorities for rideshare drivers. Limping out of the car with tight hips when taking a break from driving, waking up in pain, or feeling empty mentally at the end of a long night shift are all too common.
Our body is remarkable at adapting to what we give it. It's done a great job adapting to the needs of sitting in a car and driving so much! That's just not helpful for general health and longevity. You can have both good health and be able to work as much as you need. In fact, better health and fitness can improve working performance.
Fitness Fill-Up is here to help kickstart the process of reversing that trend towards poorer health from driving, and share some ways to limit negative impacts throughout the day. Plus, have fun getting moving as a group and getting to interact with peers in a different environment!
We'll take this outside and get a serotonin boost from the benefit of time in nature, next to trees, native plants, and water. Plus, with partner and team-based exercises and challenges, you'll stimulate the brain and nervous system to be regulated well and to prevent the cognitive decline that can be associated with overnight work and reliance on caffeine.
P.S. All are welcome! This is tailored to people who drive many hours for work, but anyone can benefit (see below about medical clearance and adapting the session if needed).
Logistics:
There is ample parking! If it is your first time coming, you will need to fill out an intake form online (preferable - you will get an email after registering) or when you get here, to make sure that there is no medical reason you should not be starting a new exercise routine, or if you would need to talk with your primary care doctor first. That said, there will be several all-level options, such as extending the nature walk section of the program throughout the entire time as one example.
About Coach Will H. Hansen, CSCS:
Will is a professional fitness coach with over 10 years of experience helping athletes* of all ages excel, from 4 to 95 years young (*"if you have a body, you are an athlete" according to legendary track coach Bill Bowerman). He is also a professional driver with 5 years, and over 7,000 rideshare trips around the eastern half of Massachusetts. As a result, he understands the health challenges and physical needs that come with this line of work (and with similar jobs). He is all too familiar with the negative consequences on health from this kind of work when unmitigated. He is working to promote more of a focus on health and well-being through community-building and joy-centric, evidence-based activations.
