Fishing Line and Litter Pick up at Midlothian Mines Park

Bat Conservation & Rescue of Virginia and Heart of Piedmont Wildlife Rescue are teaming up with Chesterfield Parks and Recreation to clean improperly discarded fishing line and litter around Loch Lothian at Midlothian Mines Park. We welcome community members to come join us and protect the wildlife that calls the park home.
🦇 Event Purpose:
Thousands of wild animals perish each year due to discarded fishing line and tackle. Improperly discarded fishing line entangles wildlife of all species from birds, bats, reptiles, and other mammals. Fishing line does not biodegrade and entanglements are often fatal or cause serious injury. Every piece of fishing line collected will save a life!
🦆 Location:
Volunteers will meet at the stage area at 11am for introductions and a brief overview. Volunteers will then break to clean the Loch Lothian area only. Loch Lothian is a wonderful place for waterfowl, raptors, bats, herons, and songbirds. Help us keep their environment clean and safe!
🐢 What to bring and wear?
We will have some litter grabbers and trash bags for volunteers. Please dress appropriately for the weather and boots are recommended. Make sure to bring thick garden gloves. If you have litter grabbers or pole pruners, please bring them along!

* Although there is no age limit, this may not be suitable for small children. Parents are responsible for their children at all times.
** Please note that the Loch Lothian portion is on the opposite side of N Woolridge Rd from the Midlothian Mines Park parking lot. The stage area for the initial meet is to the left of the Loch Lothian parking area if you are facing the lake.
