Come along and celebrate Gone Fishing Day at the Fish Wise Festival, held at the stunning Valley Lake in Mount Gambier.Throughout the day, visitors can engage with informative and interactive stalls from OzFish, Fishcare Volunteers SA, Recfish SA and event sponsors, spotlighting aquatic habitat restoration, sustainable fishing, and litter reduction.
Free canoe hire will offer lake access for participants to experience Valley Lake from the water.
Local food vendors will provide refreshments, contributing to a vibrant and social atmosphere.

We ask that water skiing boats and jet skis refrain from using the lake during the event hours (10am-3pm).

Agenda
The event will feature the following activities:
- Sustainable fishing competition – fantastic prizes for participation, mystery length carp and native fish release photo/video and litter collected. Different categories for age and abilities to promote diversity in fishers. Fishing is via canoe/kayak or shore based only.
- Native and introduced fish education – Fishcare Volunteers SA.
- Aquatic habitat education stall – OzFish Unlimited.
- Fish stocking, Cod pods and eduction – Recfish SA.
- Canoes available for event participants to use and enjoy the lake.
- Food vendors.
The Fish Wise Festival kicks off at 10 AM with registration and a community welcome.
The sustainable fishing competition begins promptly, running until 2:30 PM with inclusive categories and prizes.
The event wraps up at 3 PM with prize announcements, acknowledgements, and community thanks.
